Many thanks to Naysue for her post over at Black Girl Lost In A Book alerting us to some books being adapted for the big screen. Some of them I had heard of and some are news to me!

A RAISIN IN THE SUN by Lorraine Hansberry - After a successful Broadway run, this star-studded adaptation is coming to the small screen. Tune in to ABC on February 25th at 8PM EST.

PUSH by Sapphire - If you haven't read this book, add it to your list immediately. Although I read it many years ago, it's a story I'll always remember. It has an interesting array of celebs attached to it such as singer, Lenny Kravitz, comedianne, Mo'Nique, and actress, Paula Patton. Lee Daniels will direct. No release date yet.

THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY by Alexander McCall Smith - Although I haven't yet read this book, this has to be the film I'm most excited about. Jill Scott takes the lead role alongside Idris Elba and Anika Noni Rose. It was filmed on location in Botswana. No release date for this one yet either.

Check out this video from the set:

BLOOD ON THE LEAVES by Jeff Stetson - Jamie Foxx will star in and produce the adaptation of this 2004 release. No other cast members have been announced yet. I haven't read this book but it is another that is going on my to-read list.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES by Sue Monk Kidd - Another star studded cast will bring this book to life on the big screen. Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, and Sophie Okonedo have all signed on. Alicia Keys is in negotiations to join the cast as well. Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of one of my favorite movies of all time, Love and Basketball, will be at the helm.

TROUBLE MAN: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF MARVIN GAYE by Steve Turner - Although I don't think anyone can do Marvin Gaye but Marvin Gaye, Jesse Martin certainly has the look! Sexual Healing will be produced by James "Tony Soprano" Gandolfini. Shooting begins in April.

Other books coming to the big screen:

James McBride's MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA'S (directed by Spike Lee)

Zane's ADDICTED and SEX CHRONICLES

Alice Seibold's THE LOVELY BONES

Let us know what you think about these adaptations and the actors slated to bring these books to life.

Wow, I didn't know PUSH was slated for the screen. I also didn't know about BLOOD ON THE LEAVES. I have the book but never got a chance to read it. Hmm, may have to push it up in the pile.

I do agree that Jesse Martin has the look...But that's an ambitious role.
